ELLIOT JACOB HAS ARRIVED!

Elliot Jacob arrived @ 11:40pm in Gloucester, England. He weighed in at precisely 8 lbs & measured 20 inches long. He is a little brother to Jonas - a bit of a change in plans! Jonas was confidently talking about a baby sister coming! However, he was not at all perturbed about this mysterious change in plans & took it all in stride!


Jody came home from hospital the next day to a home still without running water due to the flooding there a week ago. They are just happy to all be home & are settling in nicely.




Grandma & Grandpa are planning to make a little trip across the pond to meet Elliot in person. We are looking forward to this with great anticipation!

Relaxing at Java

Val & I got together with Kim Grillo & her son Luca last week. They live in California & were visiting family here for 3 weeks.
























Luca had a big head of spiky black hair as a baby. It's still long, but has lightened a bit & is not spiky anymore!


















Luca loved watching the trucks and other traffic go by. Reminded me of Jonas! When we asked Kim whether he was talking yet, she said, "He says lasagna!"














It was difficult to get a picture of Luca smiling, so this is as close as I got! I guess next time we see them, he will have a little brother or sisiter.

Deck project

  I guess our visit to Scott & Kim & seeing their new deck spurred us to work on ours! Larry spent one hot evening ripping off the old decking & the railings. We are leaving the basic deck intact - we just weren't happy with the fading, weathered wood that needs re-doing every year as well as the railing that was quite flimsy.
 

We spent the next evening cleaning up all the wood and preparing the deck for the new Trex material that we ordered. Unfortunately, it came a week late with numerous mistakes in sizing and quanitity, etc. So, now we're waiting for a new order. Oh well, it's way too hot to work anyway!

 Andrea wore her wedding dress one more time. However, since it wasn't very warm, she chose to wear a sweater overtop.

July 1st at Betula Lake

 We continue the job of clean-up that was started last week, following extremely high winds in the Whiteshell.
 It was Jay's job to stoke the fire with tons of logs, branches & brush. Andrea enjoys a cup of something hot!
  Damage on the other side of the lake is even more extensive.
 Betula Lake Resort looks very sad & barren, bereft of many trees.

  The weather was cool, cloudy & windy all day, so we waited till evening to put the boat in the water.
 Along the river, we noticed areas where the trees had been decapitated by the strong winds.
  Alonely loon who seemed unusually tame. We came up quite close & noticed a leader & hook around it's neck like a necklace.

Side-trip to Sunriver Resort

Instead of traveling west to the Oregon coast which we usually do, we traveled east over the Cascades to Bend. This area is known as the Oregon high desert. We stayed at a nice resort in the lodge just behind us.
In the morning, we had breakfast at the Sintra Cafe.
The highlight of our trip was our whitewater rafting adventure! We shot the Big Eddy rapids, a high class 3 or low 4, depending on which literature you looked at. Since they advised us to take a waterproof camera, we haven't got those pictures developed yet! Keep posted!
