In the middle of April, Larry had a KCMA conference he attends annually and often I am fortunate enough to accompany him. We try to make a mini holiday out of these events by going a few days early or staying a day or two later. This time the conference happened to be in Tucson, Arizona. I know, nice place to be at this time of year! It was very purposefully chosen, I'm sure! So, we went a day early & asked at the hotel what is a "must do" thing in Tucson. Well, the gal suggested a hike in the Santa Catalinas, so here we are! We hadn't really planned on hiking but seeing it was a beautiful day, we pulled on our "hiking shoes", golf shoes for me and crocs for Larry and away we went!

Along our hike we noticed the subdued purple desert thistle which adds color to the brown, dry landscape.

Probably one of the first things we noticed is that the saguaro cactus dominates the desert landscape here. Having vacationed in Palm Springs for years, this is not a common cactus in that area.

Much brighter and more striking is the prickly pear cactus which is in full bloom at this time of year.
